Welcome to my blog! I’m Alice, it’s nice to meet you!
I love writing and hope to one day make it my full time career, but for now it’s my early (early!) morning hobby. I like to write romance, but there always needs to be a painful twist to it. I call them romantic tragedies, but if that’s an actual genre, I haven’t seen it listed anywhere. I like books like Me Before You and A Walk to Remember. I like to write similar books and explore how I think people handle tragedy.
I published my first book, 99 Days, earlier this year, and I learned a lot through the process. You can view it on my bookshelf, or through this link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WRJG4FN?ref_=pe_3052080_276849420. If you’d like to support me and buy a copy, I’d also love to know what you think of it, so please consider leaving a review.
If you’re a new writer and interested in learning more about the self publishing process, I’m happy to connect. You can contact me here on my website or on Instagram under @writingisapayne. I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far, or point you in the direction of some amazing mentors. Personally, I couldn’t have done it alone, and I’m grateful for the people who helped me along the way.
If you’re an avid reader, I’d love to get your opinion on my book. I periodically have giveaways, so sign up for a chance to get a free copy of 99 Days. I’m a self-published author, which means I don’t have a large publishing house behind me so all of my decisions are my own, this allows me to have more promotions. If you follow me on Instagram that’s the best place to find out about when a new book is coming out or when I’m having a giveaway. Also it means the world to me when someone leaves me an honest review. This boosts my sales, which allows me to publish more books. Another benefit of self publishing is that I can put books out more frequently than traditionally published authors, so if you like my books, you won’t have to wait as long to read them.
Another new thing I did this year was have a baby! I was terrified that it was going to kill my writing career before it really started. And at first it did. I think the first few months with a new baby are just about survival, but after the three month mark my creativity came back with fire behind it. I actually wrote my second full book this past November, and it was the first time I won NaNoWriMo. If you are unfamiliar, that’s National Novel Writing Month. Every November thousands of writers all pledge to write 50,000 words in the month of November. I’ve tried to do it officially since 2019, but this was my first year to win. That was an exciting moment for me when the confetti rained down on the screen! And, it was a really big deal for me to win for the first time after having my baby because it felt like I was proving to myself that I could still write even though I’m a mom now.
Not only do I enjoy writing books, but I love reading them too. While I enjoy romance, my all time favorite book is The Hobbit. I read it for the first time as an adult, and I just love the escape it gives me. I’m currently listening to the audiobook of it with my son while we play in the mornings. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of that book. It’s timeless for sure.
I joined a book club for the first time in my life and I’m really excited for my first meeting, and I can’t wait to meet new people and learn about their reading styles and preferences. I think 2023 is the perfect time to try something new like this.
Speaking of new, I’m currently editing my latest book, which doesn’t have a name yet (I finished the first complete draft only a few days before writing this), but I think it’s going to be a really good follow up to my debut novel, 99 Days. It’s not a sequel, but it does have similar themes.
If you’ve gotten this far, I’m so glad you’re still here. I hope you check out my bookshelf. I plan on adding to it as frequently as I can, while maintaining a high quality. Please come back often to learn what’s going on in my life, with my writing, and when the newest book will be out.
I look forward to reading and writing with you soon!
Alice
I heard that you have a beautiful baby. Congratulations and Happy New Year!
